Match Reports

The Indian Premier League (IPL) El Clasico is taking place in completely different circumstances this year, with both teams dropping to the bottom of the points table.

While the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have won one of their six matches, the Mumbai Indians (MI) are looking forward to an unbeaten record of seven consecutive defeats to start an IPL season. A win will not help either side to rise much in the rankings, but it will welcome form and morale.

CSK had lost a win over the Gujarat Titans in the last match. Chris Jordan's tactical errors and some pathetic death bowling ensured that the Super Kings could not add momentum to their victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore. Dwayne Pretorius, who was notable at the start of the season, is expected to return to the playing XI, with Adam Milne ruled out of IPL 2022 due to injury.

Meanwhile, MI will look to Kieron Pollard to repeat some of his standard heroics against CSKA. The West Indies, who have now retired from international cricket, may not find their time in the IPL 2022 but may welcome the opposition in favor of finally launching their campaign. Fabian Allen, who was bought for a large sum at the auction but did not get enough opportunities to show his value, will be replaced by Tim David in the Mumbai team.

The clash will be hosted by DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, April 21.
