Match Facts

Delhi Capitals will face Mumbai Indians in match number 16 of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Capitals and MI are the teams that have not won a game in IPL 2023 yet. DC played three matches, losing all, while MI played two, losing at the hands of RCB and CSK. Check out the best fantasy picks between DC and MI. DC and MI struggled to get going with bat in hand. Although skipper Warner has scored more than 170 runs in their matches, his strike rate is 130. The southpaw is far from his best. Apart from the opening batsman, the rest of the DC batsmen failed to produce consistent scores. With Mitchell Marsh unavailable for a few matches, DC will have to sort out their batting woes quickly. MI also have problems with their batting as skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav are out of form. DC has been subpar in all three departments of the game so far this season. The bowlers failed to restrict the opposition batsmen to an achievable score, while the batsmen returned cheaply to the dugout without leaving. There have been mistakes in the field as well. After the last match, head coach Ricky Ponting admitted that the team was a long way off, but he didn't know why because the preparation and practice was good, but it didn't come through on the field.

DC's lone batsman is captain David Warner. He is third in the run scorers list with 158 runs from three matches so far this season. Warner has now scored over 6000 runs in the IPL, but his strike rate of 117 this season is a far cry from his overall strike rate of 140 in the cash-rich league. Riley Roseau, Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel have made useful cameos with the bat, but other batsmen have been invisible so far this season. Mitchell Marsh was in exceptional nick in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar ODI series, but after scoring just 4 runs from 2 matches in the opening games, Mitchell Marsh is now unavailable for the next few matches as he has returned to Australia for his impending wedding. Marsh was replaced by Rovman Powell in the playing XI against RR, but he too looked poor and may be replaced against MI. Phil Salt could replace Powell against MI, the English batsman is known for his hard hitting style and early attacking innings DC may need to cover Warner's slow scoring rate and their other batsmen can also give confidence and help easily. Their batting woes.

Prithvi Shah and Sarfaraz Khan have so far struggled against top-quality pace attacks in Delhi Capitals' crushing defeats in IPL 2023. Shah scored 19 runs while Sarfaraz scored only 34 runs at a slow scoring rate. Shaw was brought in as an impact player against RR but was dismissed by Trent Boult in the first over. His weakness against left-arm fast bowlers is well documented and Shaw is likely to be benched against MI as left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff is expected to lead the MI bowling attack.

2022 Under-19 World Cup winning captain Yash Dull might finally get a chance in the IPL. He may replace Manish Pandey in the middle order. The experienced batter was sent back to the dugout for a golden duck against RR. Dul is a prolific run scorer in domestic cricket and could be a surprise package for DC if given the chance.
