Barcelona will begin their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign with a pre-season friendly against Spanish fourth-tier side Olot on Wednesday night.
Xavi's side are building up to their La Liga opener at Rio Vallecano on August 13. Olot played last season in Tercera Division RFEF - Group 5, the fifth tier of the Spanish league system, but will be in the fourth tier for 2022-23 following their promotion. Mannix Mandiola's side had dropped to the fifth tier following relegation in 2020-21, but managed to secure promotion to the Segunda Division RFEF at the first time of asking.
The Catalan outfit have been very busy this summer in terms of incomings, with Ernests Forgas, Gonzalo Pereira and Sebas Corris all set to join the club on free transfers. Meanwhile, Olot has allowed five first-team players to move on ahead of the new campaign and is expected to take on more business before the transfer window closes.
The clash with Barcelona will give their players a great opportunity to test themselves at the highest level and it will be interesting to see how they fare against their illustrious rivals. Barcelona ended last season without a trophy after suffering disappointment in the Copa del Rey, Champions League and Europa League, while finishing second in the La Liga table behind Real Madrid.
Xavi has made a big impression as head coach since his arrival in November, however, despite financial problems the club have big plans this summer, with deals for Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski and Leeds United's Rafinha believed to be progressing. Frank Kessy and Andreas Christensen have arrived on free transfers, while Clement Lenglet and Dani Alves have moved on; Ousmane Dembele is also out of contract, so he won't feature here as talks over a new contract continue, while Adama Traore and Luc de Jong have returned to their parent clubs.
Barcelona will face Inter Miami, Real Madrid, Juventus, New York Red Bulls and Pumas UNAM in preparation for the new campaign. The team's 2022-23 La Liga season begins on August 13 at home to Rio Vallecano, while they face Real Sociedad and Real Valladolid in the first month of the new campaign.
