Match Facts

Manchester United will complete their preparations for the 2022-23 Premier League campaign with a friendly against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

SportsNight Possible LineUp

Man United XI: De Gea; Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Malacia; McTominay, Fred; Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.

Atl. Madrid XI: Oblak; Wass, Gimenez, Savic, Lodi; Llorente, Koke, Witsel, Carrasco; Griezmann, Correa.

The match comes 24 hours after the Red Devils take on Atletico Madrid in Norway, while Rayo will enter the match on the back of a 2-1 win over Leganes in a friendly. A strong group to Norway for the match against Diego Simeone's side Man United announced their squad list for Saturday's clash with Atletico on Friday afternoon, meaning the clash with Rayo will provide opportunities for a number of players in need of minutes.

The Red Devils have had a successful pre-season up to this point with a 4-0 win over Liverpool in Thailand on 12 July and preparations for the new campaign have begun. Erik ten Haag's side beat Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace in Melbourne and drew 2-2 with Aston Villa in Perth before returning to Manchester last weekend.

The club also featured in a 4-1 win over Wrexham, with Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez making their unofficial debuts for the club. At the time of writing, there have been three new signings this summer, with Tyrell Malaysia also arriving from Feyenoord. The match will represent ten Haag's first home fixture in charge of Man United, with the new Premier League campaign now around the corner, with Brighton & Hove Albion visiting Manchester on August 7, and the pressure will be on the Dutchman. Perfect start.

Rayo, meanwhile, are heading into their La Liga opener against Barcelona on August 13, with the team already taking part in four pre-season matches. Antony Irola's side began their preparations for the new season with a 3–0 defeat at Freiburg on 16 July, before recording a 2–0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday four days later.

Rayo drew 2-2 with Birmingham City on July 23 before beating Leganes 2-1 last time out, but the club have had a relatively quiet transfer window so far, with Unai Lopez bringing in just three players. Salvi Sanchez and Diego Lopez arrive on free transfers. Diego Costa has been linked with a return to the club, but the move has yet to materialize so the former Chelsea forward will not be in attendance at Old Trafford this weekend.

Los Franjirojos enjoyed a successful 2021-22 campaign, returning to the top flight and finishing 12th in the table, representing their best performance in La Liga since 2015.
